Born in Romania in 1967, Simona Dan originally pursued a brilliant career as a contemporary dance choreographer. Graduate of the Romanian University of Science and Arts (Bachelor of Arts in Performing Arts, major in Choreography and minor in Scenography), Simona run for over a decade workshops on self-awareness, self-exploration and recovery of inner potential through movement. In 2010, Simona developed the "Inside-Outside" Movement and Dance Awareness Technique, which she presented at the Non-Formal Education Laboratory, under Aegis of the Romanian Agency for Community Programs in the field of Education and Vocational Training. Simona used techniques and elements of self-awareness, introspection through dance, defining the space in which bodily forms become words, generating authentic and deep messages from the inside to the outside... Settled in the UK, Simona started painting in 2018, upon a "call received in her heart" - as she likes to say - thus, "Syona" being born... Simona's passion for choreography was thus beautifully transposed by Syona in colour, texture and fluidity. Today, with confidence, Syona discovers the world of abstract art and positions herself in a natural way. She is particularly fond of textures and the superposition of layers of colours. The large format inspires her. Syona mainly uses acrylic as a medium, known for its versatility, its composition making possible both almost solid 3-D structures, and fluid forms, almost aquatic. The quick drying allows faster colour superposition. Syona uses both brush and spatula as tools of choice for her paintings. She likes to use paint and gold leaf, to bring vibrance to her paintings, since the mixture of the two mediums creates magnificent and original effects.

SYONA CONSTANTLY EXPLORES NEW TERRITORIES, SEEKING TO BE IN-TUNE WITH THE ENERGY AROUND HER. IN A STATE OF RESONANCE WITH THE WORLD, SHE ATTEMPTS TO RIDE A WAY WITH EVERY INSTANT, ACTING AS A CHANNEL THROUGH HER BRUSH AND OTHER TOOLS FOR THE FORCES OF NATURE, NOT LEAST THE POWER OF GRAVITY, THAT CARRIES PAINT ONTO HER CANVAS. THUS, “WHIRLING” IS ABOUT PARALLELISM OF ENERGETIC FIELDS IN THE HUMAN REALM. EACH ZONE IS DISTINCT, YET THERE IS AN INTRINSIC LINK BETWEEN THEM, WITHIN THE WHIRLING PATTERNS AND DYES OF EACH COLOUR/ENERGY ZONE. DARK BROWN IS THE ENERGY OF MATERIAL BODY, RED IS THE EMOTIONAL BODY, WHEREAS GOLD IS THE RADIAN AND HIGHLY VIBRATIONAL FIELD OF ASTRAL BODY.
