Brice Poircuitte is a New Caledonian artist that produces art which challenges the marginalised artistic forms. In order to do this, he paints on canvas in a highly figurative style without an apparent meaning reminiscent of artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Jackson Pollock or Enki Bilal. He is equally influenced by new art forms emerging from the street and popular culture, like graffiti, cartoons, science-fiction, advertising or Rock music. Since 2015 when he met Didier Zanette, he has begun to work on Oceanian objects, which he uses to give life to his disturbing universe born from the artistic wastelands of the Pacific region. His art is a product of a true cultural mix of urban and rural subcultures. Restoring to Oceanian art its contemporaneity, he reminds us that comics and advertising arrived long ago even in the most remote areas of Papua New Guinea. Through his art, Brice Poircuitte invites the viewer to enter into a marvellous world of magical objects and fantastical artefacts. With mathematical formulas that only he has the key to, he is a magician capable of bewitching the beholder.
