Manuel Mugica Ficha biográfica Soy un pintor autodidacta, comencé a interesarme por el arte cuando, siendo asistente de un historietista descubrí en su taller libros de pintores renacentistas. Los cuales poco a poco me fascinaron de tal manera que comencé a pintar y dejé de interesarme en las historietas. Así inicié mi recorrido por museos y galerías y a comprar los escasos libros de pintores que había en ese tiempo en México. Ingresé a una escuela de iniciación artística de Bellas Artes más que otra cosa porque no tenía un espacio para pintar en mi casa. Casi desde el principio de mi actividad artística he tenido y manifestado un interés por la carne humana y la deshumanización que la tecnología va provocando en nuestra vida. Mi primera serie de pinturas "Réquiem para una civilización" 1989-1992 exhibida en el Museo del Taco es acerca de la carne y la tecnología, la segunda "Del carnaval al estudio" 1989-1994 Galería José María Velasco está más enfocada en la carne, ambas fueron expuestas y ambas causaron fascinación y rechazo entre los asistentes. Dos obras "El cumpleaños de la agonía" y "El matrimonio de Adán"de mi tercera serie de pinturas "ENQ" 1995-2002 fueron seleccionadas en la IX Bienal Rufino Tamayo. Esta serie trata acerca de la deshumanización y la cosificación, es decir como la tecnología ha impactado en nuestras vidas convirtiéndonos cada vez más en cosas o seres tecnificados más que humanizados. Parte de esta serie fue expuesta por primera vez en El Seminario de Cultura Mexicana, fue curada por Esther Massry, la hoja de sala estuvo a cargo del Maestro Juan Carlos Pereda curador en jefe del Museo Rufino Tamayo y las palabras de presentación quedaron en la pluma del Maestro José Luis Cuevas. Esta serie pintada en blanco y negro está realizada así porque me interesaba dar más preponderancia a la forma sobre el color, la serie jamás ha sido expuesta completa. "Quantum" 2005...es la serie en la que trabajo actualmente y la que más problemas me ha planteado con ella he retomado el color y añadido una composición más compleja por sus múltiples figuras y la fragmentación espacial que me planteo en cada obra, es la única de las 4 series que tiene tanto pinturas como dibujos de gran formato. Parte de la serie ha sido expuesta en El Palacio Legislativo y la galería José Clemente Orozco de la Benemérita Escuela Nacional de Maestros Otras series de pinturas importantes son "Osteografías" con la cual obtuve un premio en el concurso Munacua-Rodin-Lumen con "Osteografía de agua" Por otra parte 2 obras de la serie "Cabezas" fueron expuestas en el Muzeum Umeni y la Galería Designubenesov Finalmente añado que he tenido épocas en las que no he pintado pero siempre hasta el 12 de octubre de 2018 había dibujado, por lo cual poseo una gran colección de series de dibujos de pequeño y mediano formato, entre las que destacan: "Espectros"1986-2013 "Año bisiesto" 1999 "Profecías" 2006-2010 "Envidias" 2016 "Reproches" 2017 "Desprecios" 2018. Actualmente trabajo en varias series siendo el eje de mi trabajo mi serie Quantum.
