about BIOGRAPHY Stefano Favaretto was born in Merano in 1969. His passion for photography led him right from the age of 15 to study photographic techniques and experiment with them. After his studies in human sciences, he worked for many years as a psychologist and psychotherapist, which certainly contributed to his personal growth as an artist and photographer always intent to capture human emotions in his pictures. This was how his artistic focus developed: observe and capture the human and spiritual essence behind a picture, in order to stimulate the observer to reflect and get in touch with his or her own emotions and interior life. His passion for photography and human narratives also spurred him to travel throughout the different continents. These journeys broadened his cultural knowledge and awareness, contributing to the evolution of his artistic work. A typical feature of Favaretto’s work is the use of elements taken from psychotherapy, such as metaphors and symbols and to photograph the real characters of local legends and tales. For Favaretto, a picture has to trigger emotions, and does this in a circular process that involves the observer as well as the work of art itself. It is the observer who projects his or her own meanings and interpretations onto the picture, making it his or her own. Only in this way a photograph can be considered successful. Stefano Favaretto is without doubt a creative, original artist who transforms photography into a sublime form of art, dedicating the uttermost attention and sensitivity even to the smallest details. MEETING MARBLE In 2014, Favaretto’s artistic and spiritual development leads him to devote himself entirely to photography, without ever loosing the deep connection between art and psychology. In 2014 he also gets in touch with a new geographic area, the province of Massa and Carrara, which leads to something like a real revolution in his way of doing art. The cultural variety of this region, its ancient legends originated from the world of marble as well as the deep artistic sensitivity of this area are a breeding ground for the development of new, original artistic techniques. The Alpi Apuane and Claudio Morelli, a craftsman with a profound knowledge of marble, introduce the artist to this fascinating material full of life. Marble becomes the main source of Favaretto’s artistic creations, transforming the artist’s work and way of doing photography. Printing his pictures on thin marble-layers is the starting point of a new artistic quest, where matter and photography work together to form unique works of art with a very strong visual impact. The photographs seem to be born from the matter itself, literally melting into them. "PHOTOGRAPHY THE INVISIVILE" Favaretto 's artistic research aims to investigate in a profound and systematic way the existence of an indispensable union between a so - called "invisible or invisible" universe made of energies, frequencies, vibrations, particular figures apparently not perceivable at all to the human eye and what instead represents the visible or more material world. You could also define the attempt to demonstrate the famous union between God understood as the energetic whole and nature, soul and cosmos and not physical matter, trying to remove that veil that has not always allowed us to see what is behind the matter and always around us in a single macrocosm. His attempt is to break down the boundaries between physical and non-physical by going deeper into human spirituality understood as the overcoming of the tangible matter towards something invisible from which life originates or from which the purpose of existing comes. His deep research investigates elements that have always been the bridge between the two supposed universes (physical and not physical). One of these elements is that of the myth intended as a tool to arrive at a greater understanding of what surrounds us. Through the narration of myth we connect real or really existed elements to surreal or fantastic elements that have been deposited in the collective unconscious for centuries and not for this reason considered not existing (think of the myth of Christmas or angels). In the myth according to Favaretto precious information is deposited on the rites, traditions and beliefs of a people, often dictated by a particular observation of reality. Exploring this mythical reality we can succeed in grasping or demonstrating that the human being has always tried to "go beyond" and to be able to confirm the existence of a universe we do not see. Favaretto tries to immortalise a reality that is there before our eyes, makes it emerge in the open and through the mirroring reveals it to the world in its entirety and form. This is how incredible figures emerge, sometimes scary because unknown to us and sometimes very similar to those described in mythological local and popular narratives. The use of materials on which to print such as rock, marble and wood is used to bring the viewer a continuity in the research and to maintain the physical-non-physical duality in the conceptual uniqueness. In the work printed on precious materials, the importance of nature as an engine of humanity and as a container of human existence is deliberately highlighted.
