EN A leading name in Italian photography, Pino Dal Gal was born in Verona, where he developed his artistic sensitivity. In Milan he perfected his shooting technique, devoting himself entirely to costume photography. In the meantime, he worked for the publishing office of Mondadori Editore and opened an advertising agency in Verona, but his main occupation continued to be photography. This became an instrument of social condemnation with the Chicken Story, Mensa Aziendale and La Cava collections, which took a journalistic approach to report on the unique conditions of the Italian work environment in the Seventies. This was the period of his first foreign exhibitions, including the Galerie Vinci 1840 in Paris in 1977, and the Canon Gallery in Amsterdam and the Taller Fotografico in Barcelona the same year. Also in 1977 Helmut Gernsheim brought many of his photographs to the Uni- ted States and sold them to the photography collection at the University of Texas at Austin. In the Eighties Dal Gal focused on researching anthropomorphic forms of rocks and nudes, and Gernsheim chose him to represent Italy in the International Photography Selection in Hildesheim and then as the only Italian photographer for the inauguration of the new Guggenheim exhibition space in Venice. In 2000 his artworks are exposed at the Centro Internazionale di Fotografia- Scavi Scaligeri in Verona and at the Keith de Lellis Gallery (New York); in 2001 he took part in the 1°Biennale Annali Postumia di Fotografia – Modern Art Museum of Gazoldo degli Ippoliti (Mantova). In 2003 he exhibited at the Stoke Museum and Art Galle- ry (Bath, UK). His pictures are in many public collections: at the Reiss Engelhorn Museen-Manheim (Germany), at Modern Art Museum of (Mantova), at the Uni- versity of Texas - Austin “The college of fine Arts”, foundation H.Gernsheim and at the Modern and Contemporary Art Museum in Modena.
