EN The artist fell in love with photography when he was child and used to play with his father’s Hasselblad, a Swedishhigh-quality camera. For a long time, photography has been Carella’s main hobby but in 2008, as he was about to visit Canada, he decided to turn his passion into his job: he bought all the necessary equipment and, as a self-learned photographer, started to study the technique and landscape photography. He took his inspiration from the great old masters and developed a very personal style, his trademarks being the square format and the black and white. He explored several styles and genres, getting as far as to experiment macro photography and a more “narrative” style. His series depict desert and boundless places, which can be recognized but not put on a map, in order to pick fragments of realities that can’t be set neither in time nor space. This is particularly true in the case of Effimeri (2010), Lifeblood (20122) and Rocks in the clouds (2012), which are set in a dreamlike dimension and feature minimalist shapes and open spaces. Thanks to his studies and his passion, Carella soon got recognized by the critics and, from 2011, had his works displayed in several exhibitions: he participated in Omaggio a Giorgio Morandi at Wikiarte in Bologna; he exhibited his Assolo at Spazio Raw and at the MIA Art Fair, both in Milan.
