EN Umberto Armiraglio approached the world of Artas a student of photography. He worked in the same field as photography assistant in Milan and, then, as owner of a photography studio. Here, he was interested in fashion photography, still life and the photography know as fine art: a style free from determined schemes, which are set both from the outside and by us, and from commercial purposes. But the artist kept working in order to cultivate his passion so that, after a difficult selection process, he became the artistic director of the Creative Academy project by J. Walter Thompson. He decided therefore to come back to photography in its purest form: he underwent many different techniques and worked with many different cameras, between which he also experience photography with Polaroid. In the same period, he succeeded in organizing personal exhibits and in participating to collective exhibition, national and international. The early discover of print in Fine Art allowed him to obtain an important role in the Italian offices of EPSON Digigraphie. Moreover, his name appears among the founders of AFI (Archivio Fotografico Italiano - Italian Photography Archive), of which he had been the director for eight years; in 2014 he took part in the Italian Photography Festival (Festival fotografico italiano). IT Umberto Armiraglio si avvicina al mondo dell’arte in quanto studente di fotografia, a cui seguono anni di lavoro sempre nello stesso campo: diventa assistente di fotografia a Milano e poi proprietario di uno studio fotografico. Qui si dedica a scatti di moda, riprese still-life oltre che alla fotografia così detta fine art: uno stile libero da schemi predeterminati tanto dall’esterno quanto da noi stessi, e lontana da ogni scopo commerciale. Ma l’artista continua a lavorare per perseguire la sua passione, così supera una dura selezione e, nel ruolo di direttore artistico, entra a far parte del progetto Creative Academy di J. Walter Thompson. Decide quindi di tornare alla fotografia nella sua forma più pura: sperimenta moltissime tecniche diverse e lavora con moltissime macchine fotografiche diverse, inclusa una fase in cui si dedica alla fotografia con Polaroid. Nello stesso periodo riesce a realizzare esibizioni personali e partecipa a mostre collettive, nazionali e internazionali. La precoce scoperta della stampa in Fine Art gli permette di ottenere un ruolo di primo piano per la sede italiana di EPSON Digigraphie. Il suo nome compare, inoltre, tra i fondatori dell’AFI (Archivio Fotografico Italiano) di cui è stato direttore per otto anni; nel 2014 partecipa al Festival fotografico italiano.
