EN A tireless traveller, during his adolescence he visited numerous Eastern countries, from Pakistan to Afghanistan, and in these occasions he experimented the art of photography. He did not undertake any professional training, he is an autodidact in the specific area of nature and reportage photography, while being active as a journalist on the side. In 1989 he was encouraged by the well- known Art Wolfe, one of the most eminent nature photographers. During his first period of activity, the young artist preferred the aesthetic and grandeur of the shot and for this reason he portrayed majestic creatures and dramatic landscapes. He finds in the artic regions a strong dramatic momentum, due to the remoteness and vastness of the area. Nicolini does not seek to explore the new frontiers of contemporary photography, he does not create a new genre. On the contrary, he is moved by the desire to rediscover a harmonious relationship with our environment, taking some distance from the empty space, dirtied and polluted by the tabloid culture. 1979 is the year of his first journalistic series, while 1983 is the year of his first exhibition in New York. The 90s are the most fruitful period, as well as momentum of his career. From 1997 he lives in Buenos Aires and works with the main photography journals, both Italian and foreign. He is author of some books about polar areas and Argentinian regions for the El Ateneo editions. IT Viaggiatore instancabile, da adolescente visita molti paesi asiatici, dal Pakistan all’Afghanistan e in queste occasioni sperimenta l’arte della fotografia. Non segue alcun corso professionale, si forma in modo indipendente nello specifico settore della fotografia naturalistica e di reportage, affiancata dall’attività giornalistica di completamento. Nel 1989 viene incoraggiato dal celebre Art Wolfe, uno dei migliori interpreti dello scatto naturalistico. Nel primo periodo di attività, il giovane artista privilegia l’estetica e la grandiosità nello scatto, e per questo ritrae creature imponenti e paesaggi drammatici. Trova nelle regioni polari un forte slancio drammatico, dovuta all’isolamento dell’area e alla sua immensità. Nicolini non si propone di esplorare i nuovi avamposti della fotografia contemporanea, non si inventa un genere pittorico, ma è spinto dal desiderio di ritrovare una relazione armoniosa con il nostro ambiente, allontanandosi molto dallo scatto vuoto, sporco e forzatamente scandalistico. Il 1979 è l’anno del primo servizio giornalistico, mentre il 1983 è l’anno della sua prima mostra fotografica a New York. Gli anni ’90 sono il periodo di maggior produzione, nonché lo slancio della sua carriera. Dal 1997 l’artista vive a Buenos Aires e collabora con le maggiori testate del settore, italiane e straniere. Per l’editore El Ateneo è autore di alcuni libri riguardanti zone polari e varie regioni argentine.
